I think it would benefit both for these reasons.
It would stop assimilation in the cities which will give their children better life skills to adapt as Australians...
It would give these towns a much needed boost a big plus being the schools and sports clubs would benefit from extra students.
Most country people will give you a fair go if you give them one..

There was a programme to settle Sudanese in Shepparton in rural Victoria. They have generally settled well and are becoming a part of the community. It's a good idea, gives them a chance to settle their lives down without added pressures from city life. The Shepparton group have been well supported by liaison people and community workers (so jobs for locals as well).
