If Going To Potters Bar By Bus? In The Evening?

Would you pass Stanmore on the way to Potters bar from Barnet or pass Stanmore coming from Potters Bar? I know its random, just trying to find the quickest way but TFL seems to just to the longer routes,
I should rephrase this, in the evening and if coming in from Seven sisters/tottenham even Liverpool street? My friend met a guy (she lives in Stanmore) she met him on a bus and he said he lives in Potters Bar, but both were going to Barnet on the bus, it wasn't Stanmore exactly but near there. Thing is he never invited her to his house, has just been going to hers and now she feels he is lying. She has pulled him up on it and he said he was coming from his mates house in Tottenham and had to get to Barnet to get to Potters Bar!?
